Case Study

Implementation of GLiMR in a UK government department.
A government department needed to find a way forward for several business units that relied upon case management systems built on outdated technology. Multiple systems existed, each with its own different configuration, and each with its own separate user base. This department was finding this situation complex and expensive to maintain.
The problem was solved by MDK Innovation's creation of GLiMR, which the department uses under licence:
  • GLiMR's high degree of configurability was able to cope with the diverse requirements of multiple business units
  • At the same time, GLiMR's access control model ensured that each business unit's data was only accessible to its own users

The project to move the businesses away from their old systems also involved complex data migration operations to map the configurations and user data of the old systems to the new configurations prepared for them in GLiMR. Despite the complexity of the undertaking, the project was completed with minimal disruption to business operations.
Users are generally delighted with the upgrade, and have been happily making use of GLiMR's configuration capabilities (such as adding new types of document) to streamline their work.
A number of business-specific features have since been created specifically for the department, including the capacity to receive online submissions directly from the public and to capture fee information. This involved three development teams working closely together:
  • Working in partnership with the department's own in-house team, the GLiMR team made modifications to accept new case information directly from a public-facing portal, and to accept queries for fee liability information
  • Working with one of the department's outsourcing suppliers, the GLiMR team developed an interface for the daily exchange of financial data for back office reconciliation
Despite the complexity of the undertaking (and more than a few moving goalposts!), the project was completed on time and in budget.
